Automatic Espresso Machines - Fully or Semi Automatic?

When it comes to automatic espresso machines, there are two main options you have to choose from.
The first option is a semi-automatic or super-automatic espresso machine and the second is a fully-automatic espresso machine. An automatic espresso machine has typically been used in a commercial setting, but more and more are showing up in household kitchens.

Semi-automatic espresso machines require some level of participation from the user. This user must start the initial process of the espresso machine, until the automatic portion takes over. Once the brewing process has been completed, the user must than turn off the machine. Semi-automatic espresso machines are significantly cheaper than fully automatic.

Espresso Machine

Fully-automatic espresso machines do not require any user participation whatsoever. The machine can automatically handle each step in the espresso making process. These machines are usually larger and more expensive than their semi-automatic counterparts. This type of automatic espresso machine is quite complex, as it has its own sequenced coordinating system of water, grinder, and extractor.

The first step is to determine which of the two types of automatic espresso machines would best fulfill your needs. If you are planning on using the machine commercially, the fully-automatic espresso machine would be the most logical choice. With no need for user participation and the ability to produce more espresso at a faster rate, these machines are perfect for commercial use.

If the espresso machines will only be used in a home environment, a semi-automatic espresso machine might make more sense. Since they are more compact and less expensive, semi automatic espresso machines work very well in the kitchen. A semi automatic espresso machine can be purchased online for as little as 0 dollars.

Once you have decided which type of automatic espresso machine you would like to purchase, do some research on the Internet to find the specific machine that suits you best. At this point, you can use your own criteria such as price or specific features you are looking for to find the perfect automatic espresso machine.

How Caffeine Can Affect Your Health

In a regular cup of coffee there are about 170 mg of caffeine and in decaffeinated coffee there are about 30/40 mg of caffeine.

On the stock market, Coffee is a 90 billion dollar industry but what is significant is that just in North America 85%+ drink 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day. A huge number of people are at risk for many of the issues surrounding coffee consumption.

Espresso Machine

Top Ten Reasons why you should consider switching to a "Healthy Coffee"

Top 10 Caffeine-Related Health Problems

Cardiovascular Problems

Caffeine increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure, and can contribute to the development of heart disease. Both decaf and regular coffee increase your cholesterol and homocysteine, the biochemical that science has linked to increased risk for heart attack. Caffeine is also linked to coronary vasospasms, the cause for 20% of all fatal heart attacks which kill otherwise perfectly healthy people.
Stress

Caffeine stimulates the excretion of stress hormones which can produce increased levels of anxiety, irritability, muscular tension and pain, indigestion, insomnia, and decreased immunity. Increased levels of stress from caffeine can keep you from being able to make healthy responses to the normal daily stress everyone is subjected to in their lives.

Emotional Disturbances

Anxiety and irritability are hallmark mood disturbances associated with caffeine consumption, but equally important is depression and attention disorders. Depression may occur as part of the let down after the stimulant effects of caffeine wears off. It may also appear during the recovery period after quitting caffeine while the brain's chemistry is readjusted. Caffeine rather than increasing mental activity actually decreases blood flow to the brain by as much as 30% and negatively effects memory and mental performance.

Blood Sugar Swings

Diabetics and hypoglycemics should avoid caffeine because it stimulates a temporary surge in blood sugar which is then followed by an overproduction of insulin that causes a blood sugar crash within hours. If you're trying to loose weight, this rollercoaster will actually cause weight gain since insulin's message to the body is to store excess sugar as fat.

Gastrointestinal Problems

Many people experience a burning sensation in their stomach after drinking coffee because coffee increases the secretion of hydrochloric acid leading to an increased risk for ulcers. Coffee, including decaf, reduces the pressure on the valve between the esophagus and the stomach so that the highly acidic contents of the stomach pass up to the esophagus leading to heartburn and gastro-esophageal reflux disease. With America 's high consumption of coffee, its no wonder the best selling over-the-counter drugs are the so-called antacids.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Caffeine inhibits the absorption of some nutrients and causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and trace minerals, all essential elements necessary for good health.
Male Health Problems

Male Health Issues

Coffee is an irritant to the urinary tract and bladder. It is also a diuretic that aggravates conditions associated with frequent urination. Eliminating coffee and caffeine often relieves symptoms associated with frequent urination due to enlarged prostate glands.

Dr. Milton Krisiloff, M.D. has found that in the majority of cases, men can significantly reduce their risk for urinary and prostate problems by making dietary changes which include eliminating coffee and caffeine.

Female Health Problems

Fibrocystic breast disease, PMS, osteoporosis, infertility problems, miscarriage, low birth weight infants, and menopausal problems such as hot flashes are all exacerbated by caffeine consumption. Women on birth control pills are particularly at risk since they have a decreased ability to detoxify caffeine.

Adrenal Exhaustion

Caffeine consumption leads to eventual adrenal exhaustion which can leave you vulnerable to a variety of health disorders related to inflammation, autoimmunity, and fatigue.
Aging

Many people find in their forties that they can no longer tolerate the same level of caffeine consumption as they could in their twenties and thirties. The production of DHEA, melatonin, and other vital hormones start to decline and caffeine speeds up that downhill drop. Caffeine dehydrates the body and contributes to the aging of the skin and kidneys. It has been shown to inhibit DNA repair and slow the ability of the liver to detoxify foreign toxins.

Exhausted Adrenal Glands

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. It causes the adrenal glands to secrete adrenaline, the hormone your body depends on in emergencies to elevate your heart rate, increase your respiration and blood pressure for a rapid flight-or-fight response. When you overuse stimulants, the adrenals become exhausted. If your caffeine sensitivity has diminished or you're one of those who claims you can drink 3 shots of espresso and go right to sleep, guess what? Your adrenals have given up responding. This means you have less resistance to stress, which leaves you vulnerable to health hazards such as environmental pollutants and disease pathogens

Severe Blood Sugar Swings

Caffeine forces the liver to release glycogen into the blood stream. The pancreas responds to the sudden rise in blood sugar by releasing insulin, the hormone which causes excess carbohydrates to be stored as fat. Within the span of an hour or two, the result is a sharp blood sugar drop resulting in a state of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). That's when you think it's time for another cup of coffee and the whole cycle starts up again.

Acid Imbalance

Over 208 acids in coffee can contribute to indigestion and a wide variety of health problems resulting from over-acidity associated with arthritic, rheumatic and skin irritations. Many people experience a burning sensation in their stomach after drinking coffee because coffee increases the secretion of acid in the stomach. Optimal health calls for an alkaline pH balance in the body.

Essential Mineral Depletion

Coffee inhibits the absorption of some nutrients and causes the urinary excretion of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and trace minerals, all essential elements necessary for good health. Women need to be concerned about osteoporosis as menopause sets in. Studies show that women who drink coffee have an increased incidence of osteoporosis compared to non-coffee drinkers. Men are not immune to osteoporosis either.

These are a number of health conditions for which doctors advise their patients to eliminate coffee and all caffeine from their diet.

Acid indigestion
Anxiety, irritability and nervousness
Candida or yeast problems
Colitis, diverticulitis, diarrhea and other irritable bowel symptoms
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other auto-immune disorders
Diabetes or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Dizziness, Meniere's syndrome or tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Gout (Elevated Uric Acid levels)
Heart disease or heart palpitations
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Insomnia and interrupted or poor quality sleep
Liver disease and gallbladder problems such as gallstones
Kidney or bladder problems including kidney stones
Migraines or other vascular headaches
Osteoporosis
Skin irritations, rashes and dryness
Ulcers, heartburn, and stomach problems such as hiatal hernias
Urinary tract irritation

2. Kitchen drains tend to get smelly, simply get a cup of coffee grounds and tip down the plughole making sure you tip a kettle of boiling water down slowly & leave to work on the odours

3. For a quick fix on fabrics soak garment in strong black unsugared coffee, this is an inexpensive way to dye clothes brown in an emergency but remember it will not be colour fast.

4. Coffee grounds can be used to clean any stain resistant surface, it has a mild & gentle abrasive element & smells fresh too, particularly good for smelly ashtrays and greasy surfaces.

5. To help plants to flourish add coffee to your soil, this is best done in small amounts of soil so you can add 1 cup of lime to balance acidity if need be, another way is to empty it straight onto your compost pile with other kitchen waste.

6. Fishermen, when transporting maggots & worms put them in a container with moist coffee grounds & they will be easier to pick up when you need them & they also like coffee as much as we do so it will make them live longer too.

7. Coffee can be used as an odour neutraliser if there is a powercut & the food in the freezer defrosts & goes off, simply fill a bowl or two with new or used coffee & leave in the freezer over night.

8. When it comes to cleaning/sweeping out open fires sprinkle some used coffee grounds over the hearth or wherever you have to clean & it will sweep up easier & stop the coal dust from rising up in your room so better for environment.

9. Gardeners if you grow carrots add some coffee to your seeds before sowing, not only does this make the seeds easier to sow, the smell also repels root maggots & other pests allowing for thicker juicy carrots.

10. Many people take exception to neighbours cats using their garden as a toilet, a mixture of used coffee grounds and & orange peel put round plants and in beds you want left alone will provide a pungent smell that cats do not like and so will find someone else's garden to use.

All of the above tips are great ways to use up all the used coffee grounds that would otherwise just be put down the drain or in the bin, why not put it to good use.

Is the Pump Driven Starbucks Sirena Espresso Machine For You?

If you want a Starbucks quality espresso, it would only make sense to purchase a Starbucks endorsed espresso maker, right? The Starbucks Sirena Espresso maker is a pump driven 15 bar machine made from stainless steel and comes in a sleek sophisticated design. It has dual brewing spout, a steam want with a pannarello adapter, user programmable settings and can do a one touch pre-measured single or double single shots. The Sirena can accommodate both ground espresso coffee beans as well as E.S.E pods. It features a rapid steam boiler which allows for quick switching from the brewing to the frothing, and finally - it has a fifty seven ounce removable water tank and adjustable drip tray which is removable as well. In short, this espresso maker has all the bells and whistles that one would come to expect for a Starbucks backed product.

So thats what Saeco, the manufacturer wants us to know - now the real question is, what is the review of consumers? Most consumers are generally happy with the Sirena, however I should also note that this maker isn't the best for the first time user with very little patience. Consumers who are familiar and comfortable with espresso machines in general should have no problem with Sirena. They report that it is easy to use and like the fact that you can use both pods and grinds. The Starbucks Sirena also seems to be pretty durable according so consumers, with reports of six to ten pulls per day for months. The froth is very fluffy and the contemporary design of the machine is also a big plus for many users.

Espresso Machine

Now the negatives to the Sirena may be mostly end user error and should not totally discourage you from purchasing the  machine if you know what you're doing. One complaint that many have is with the water tank. The Sirena includes a sensor that alerts you to low levels, but apparently - the sensor has a mind of its own at times. Although the levels are good, the sensor still indicates otherwise. This is something relatively minor for most, but a major annoyance for others. There also seems to be confusion on who covers the warranty. When users needed to replace parts or the machine all together, there were misunderstandings between Saeco and Starbucks, it may be frustrating - so its best to clarify this upfront when you purchase.

All in all the Starbucks Sirena by Saeco is a pretty solid espresso maker. If you are a newbie to making espresso shots, the machine can grow with you - but you have to be patient. If you are a veteran in the game you'll be more than satisfied with all the features, taste and abilities.

Specialized Gourmet Espresso Machines

Thanks to television and the Internet, we hear all of these wonderful things about gourmet espresso cartridges. Specifically we read rave reviews about their excellent taste, convenience, and clean up. People tend to get so lost in the flavor and convenience that they overlook the important part; price.

Convenience in an Espresso Cartridge

Espresso Machine

Several companies are jumping on the bandwagon and offering espresso cartridges. These cartridges are great for filling your travel mug, favorite coffee cup or for entertaining. The average price is around .50 for a pack of 10 cartridges. Each packet is vacuum sealed and usually contains two cartridges. Price per cup is about 38 cents.

The Expensive Part

Don't stop reading at the mention of the word "expensive" because we're going to break down a few prices for you. The end result may surprise you. You may even decide that investing in an espresso machine up front is well worth the overall savings.

The average cost of a gourmet espresso is .50 for a large or grande. Based on an espresso per day for 365 days a year, yearly spending is almost ,650. That's probably enough to cover your vehicle insurance for a year and have change left over.

The Lavazza Espresso Point Machine has often been referred to as a "coffee shop in a box". It is absolutely loaded with options and functions to create the perfect gourmet espresso every time. Imagine taking 30 seconds out of your day to make an espresso instead of standing in line for 20 minutes. The Lavazza Espresso Point Machine costs almost 0. A refurbished unit will run around 0.

Price Breakdown:
Lavazza Espresso Point Machine, 0
18 packages of cartridges, based on 1 cup a day for a full year, 7
Total Price, 7
Total Savings, 3

The Lavazza Espresso Point EP850 is a smaller version of the 0 machine. This compact machine is perfect for apartments or small office break rooms where space is limited. This machine doesn't hold nearly as much water as the larger machine and requires more frequent refills. For single cup purposes, it's quite possibly the best machine for the cost at around 0.

The Gevalia One Cup Coffee Maker is a more expensive unit and can be customized to fit a large office setting. Employees can easily drop in a few coins and receive precisely what they want, as frequently as they like. With prices starting around ,800, it isn't the first choice for a home unit.
Employers can't go wrong with a great espresso machine in the break room. Their coffee loving employees often spend most of their break standing in line waiting to get a great cup of coffee. Employee productivity is heavily impacted by caffeine, or the lack of it.

Keurig Mini Personal Brewer: This machine costs just under and brews a single cup at a time. Special pods or cartridges make it a very convenient way to enjoy a single cup at a time. Cartridges and pods have the reputation of being more expensive than other brands.

Studies have shown that 5 out of 20 employees who make an average of ,000 per year leave the office for coffee. These coffee runs average about 15 minutes when the company does not offer refreshments at work. Overall, 39 days of work are lost along with ,240 per year.

Employees would see the benefits of spending 50 cents a cup instead of their usual trip to the coffee house to spend .50 a cup. Employers gain back the lost productivity for a very minimal investment. The added convenience of having an espresso machine in the break room is considered a perk; no pun intended.

What type of machine is required for cartridges?

Many people are under the impression that they can lay them into their regular coffee maker and go. This is not the case. To get the best results, you must purchase the cartridge machine.

Why should I buy a machine that takes specific cartridges?

For perfect coffee, of course! Cartridges require a certain amount of pressure in order for the perfect cup of coffee to be achieved. Regular coffee makers simply run water through coffee grounds. Some need a special machine that runs the water in and punctures the cartridge; others must reach a specific temperature before they release the contents to achieve the perfect cup.

Does every brand of cartridge require its own maker?

Most are brand specific, so check the labels. Remember when making your purchase that brand specific cartridges are of a higher quality, like any other product.

Is the clean up and preparation difficult?

No. Most artisan coffee makers come with detailed, easy to follow instructions to achieve optimum results. Cleanup is as simple as wiping the machine down and tossing the used cartridge.

Do cartridge machines and the cartridges cost a lot?

No. Our previously mentioned price breakdown shows savings possibilities. Overall savings could easily pay your vehicle insurance or even be put into a savings account.

How versatile are these machines?

Very! You can make a single mug of coffee for yourself, your family, and guests. Suit everyone's needs without wasting an ounce of coffee and without having to completely wash the maker between each cartridge. That is not only versatile, but it is practical and inviting to everyone who loves coffee.

Espresso Machines

Coffee is generally prepared in two ways: espresso and drip brew. Drip brew coffee is prepared by pouring water over coffee which is contained in a filter. Espresso is an Italian coffee beverage prepared by forcing hot water through fine ground coffee beans.

Espresso is strong and has a robust flavor. Espresso coffee differs from the other variety of coffee, drip-brewed coffee, by its thick and concentrated consistency. Espresso is generally served in small amounts without any sweeteners or milk. Espresso should be consumed immediately after preparation, because it is highly reactive with oxygen.

Espresso Machine

There are various other types of espresso, like cafe latte, cafe mocha and cappuccino. All these can be made with one 'shot' of espresso.

An Espresso machine is used to prepare the espresso coffee. The machine forces water at 195 F and 9 bar of pressure through a puck of finely ground coffee. It takes about twenty seconds for 1.5 ounces of espresso to be prepared. The time can be modified by increasing the grinding quality - using finer or coarser coffee. Espresso machines also have steam wands, which is used to froth and steam milk for preparing milk-based espresso beverages like cappuccino and latte.

The piston driven espresso machine is the oldest type of espresso machines. They were first made when espresso was first discovered. The modern espresso maker machine is an upgrade of this retro espresso maker. Invented in 1938, it is used widely in thematic parties or shops.

Pump Driven Espresso Machine:

The pump-driven espresso machine is the most used type of espresso machine commercially. It is a variation/upgrade of the piston driven espresso maker, which has a pump instead of a piston.

Automatic Espresso Machine:

The automatic espresso machine produces a more consistent amount of espresso, as compared to the other types of machines. Water flows into the flowmeter, until it reaches the previously programmed level and then the 'shot' is cut.

Super Automatic Espresso Machine:

This machine automatically grinds the coffee. Some machines can adjust the shot temperature and water flow.

The Beginner's Guide to Espresso Machines

Baristas are trained in the art of making the perfect espresso. It requires a lot of patience and practice and is not easy to master. However, there is an easier way. An espresso machine. They make espresso a much simpler beverage to create by controlling the temperature precisely.

There are several different types of machines available, each functioning in a different manner. There are piston-driven espresso machines, semi-automatic machines, and automatic machines.

Espresso Machine

In the Beginning

Espresso came into being when people were looking for a quicker way to make their coffee. In Italy, around 1901, Luigi Bezzera found a way to make hot pressurized water and its steam push through a bed of finely ground coffee. The result was a quick, individual cup of highly concentrated coffee that came to be known as espresso. Bezzera acquired a patent for his machine and in 1903 these first espresso machines were sold in Europe.

These machines were not easy to use. There was no consistency to the espresso produced because the temperature and steam were controlled by the operator, leaving room for a large amount of diversity in the resulting beverages.

In 1935 Illy invented a coffee maker that used compressed air instead of steam, thus solving the problem of exploding espresso makes. His machine gave a more favorable, stable result.

The lever action espresso machine was invented by Achille's Gaggia in 1945 and still today bears his name. Both the Illeta and Gaggia versions of espresso machines are available on the market today.
Illy continued to expand and simplify his espresso machine by combining the best parts of other makers.

Various Types of Espresso Machines

Piston Driven Machines

Piston-driven machines are more authentic than any other espresso machine. It is the most primitive of the machines. Designed in Italy in 1945, this design requires strong arms to make the espresso.

The piston-driven machine uses a lever that is pumped by the operator to force pressure onto hot water, driving it through the coffee grinds. This pulling down of the handle is how the term 'pulling a shot' came into being. The piston driven espresso is also how the crema came to be a part of the drink.

Espresso drinkers who also value authenticity tend to opt for the piston-driven machine. Otherwise you can usually find them as part of a display. Advancements in technology that brought the semi-automatic and the automatic machine made the piston-driven machine obsolete.

Semi-Automatic and Automatic Machines

Semi-automatic machines are hard to find due to the advanced popularity of fully automatic espresso machines.

Semi-automatic machines and automatic espresso machines both have the hot water delivered using a pump system. However, in a semi-automatic machine the bean grinding, preparing and placing in the machine are all done by hand.

Automatic and super automatic espresso machines require that you only put the beans in. The machine measures the water, regulates the temperature and even grinds the beans to make the espresso. Many true enthusiasts believe that the quality of the espresso is lost in the automation.

Commercial or Home Use

In addition to the types of espresso machines are the uses for the machine. If the espresso machine is intended for home use then the cost is going to be decreased significantly. For commercial use, the cost can skyrocket.

Home espresso makers should be purchased with longevity in mind. The purchaser should have an idea of how often it will be used. If it is going to be used a lot, a low end commercial maker might be a better choice. For occasional use, a home maker will suffice.

Commercial makers can be plumbed to a water source or be manually filled - another cost to consider when looking into espresso makers. The more automated the machine the higher the cost.

Espresso makers come in a variety of types and sizes, all designed to prepare the very best espresso possible. When deciding on a machine, care should be taken to get the one that best serves the intended purpose.

Espresso Coffee Pot is Also Known As Moka Pot

Contrary to what many people believe, there is actually no need to purchase an expensive espresso coffee machine such as a Delonghi coffee machine in order to make your own espresso. A moka coffee pot is a practical and reasonable alternative to an expensive, high quality espresso machine.

This is a stove top espresso coffee maker that works by brewing coffee through steam pressurized water. It is often otherwise called as an espresso coffee pot by some coffee drinkers. The espresso pot is commonly used in Europe, most likely since it was "born" there. This stove top brewer was first invented and patented by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933. Being the pioneer in developing the first Moka pot, Bialetti has become the number one brand of espresso maker over any other brand of coffee machines.

Espresso Machine

The Bialetti pot, also called the Moka Express, is the world's number one brewer with over 250 million units manufactured to date. It has revolutionized the way espresso coffee is prepared and is recognized by its trademark octagonal shape. Its shape has been patented worldwide and is an iconic design and displayed in modern industrial art museums such as the Science Museum in London. Being the top of its class, this Bialetti pot is in fact the most copied coffee maker and is a staple appliance in many households.

The reason for its popularity is because of its ease of use and affordability. The Moka pot comes in 6 different sizes - it is available in 1(2oz), 3 (6.5 oz), 6 (10 oz), 9 (18.5 oz), 12 (25 oz) and 18 (37 oz) cup sizes. All the espresso pots bear Bialetti's unique mark of "the little fellow with the mustache." The Bialetti Moka brewer is made of aluminum. Its original design was made from aluminum with bakelite handles. It consists of several parts.

There is a reservoir or a boiler where the water is poured in, a filter basket/funnel that holds the coffee grounds, a filter plate that fits the top part and a gasket or a rubber ring that holds the plate in place. To use the pot, water is first poured in the reservoir, usually up to the level of the steam valve. Then the filter basket or funnel is inserted and pour onto the coffee grounds into this filter basket. The gasket and the filter plate are then tightly screwed on the base. Finally, the Moka pot is placed over a stove top and heated until just before it starts to boil. Then the only thing left to do is to enjoy your freshly brewed cup of stove top espresso coffee.

Things You Should Know About Espresso Machines and What to Watch Out For

Many people buy an espresso machine, but don't know what they want to do with it or what they want to pour. Now this may seem like a strange concept to understand, but I will explain further and you will see how easy it is to make a mistake.

Before we get onto that take a look below at some reasons why you would want your own espresso machine.
To entertain people To SAVE money To relax at home To experience the same authentic feeling you get when you are at a coffee shop, chatting with friends. For connoisseurs who want to perfect their own espresso brew To tell people you have your own espresso machine (this does happen)

Espresso Machine

Now I am going to tell you those that don't make a mistake when they buy such a machine.
For connoisseurs who want to perfect their own espresso brew.

Do you know why these espresso drinkers don't make mistakes? Well the answer is simple. They know what they want and what they are going to do with it.

There are many different machines on the market and all claiming to do the best espresso. In truth, they all do the best espresso but the difference is that your opinion differs from the next persons' opinion.

If you buy a machine because of what it is advertised to do, does that make it the right one for you? Truthfully, not all the time. The reason I say this is that just because something can do anything, it doesn't mean that it can do everything. Everyone differs from the next.

Let me show you real quick, the basics of coffee pouring coffee. These steps will of course depend with what equipment you use or the type of coffee you have.
The raw coffee beans must be roasted The roasted coffee beans must be ground The ground coffee beans must be mixed with water for a certain time (called brewing) The liquid coffee must be separated from the used grounds

This is a basic layout of coffee-making, but they play an important part in the overall flavour of coffee you will eventually get.

Basically what I am saying is that if you don't use the right coffee beans for the type of flavour that you want, then you won't like the outcome of the espresso. But how would this be a problem with espresso machines if all you need is the right coffee?

Well say you are looking for a particular coffee flavour, but this coffee flavour does not come in ground coffee pods. Are you going to be able to make this type of coffee if you have a machine that only takes ground coffee pods?

You also need to look at the pressure you get out of different machines. If you are looking for good froth you are going to want to get a pump driven machine and not a steam machine. Although you will get froth from both, you won't get as much pressure if you don't have one that is pump driven.

With that said, there are different pressure pumps in different types of machines. You need to look at what you want from a machine before you buy one.

Like I said there are many different espresso machines on the market and it is easy to get sucked into advertising for the best one. All it takes is a little time to read some reviews and make a decision on what you want to buy, based on what you want to use it for.

In most cases you will save money with having your own brewing machine at home. However, if you buy a machine with the expectation that it will deliver something to you that it in itself cannot do you will end up spending more money on either parts (from over use) or sending it back and buying another one.

Basically what I am saying is that buying an espresso maker does not have to be a degree earning experience, but rather something that requires a little attention instead of impulsive buying.

How to Clean Your Espresso Machine

Cleaning your espresso machine is no easy chore, but it must be done so you can churn out tasty and healthy cappuccinos and espresso drinks for yourself and your guests. Let's look at the required steps you need to follow on how to clean your espresso machine so that it will remain squeaky clean.

Step 1 - Prepare and gather the necessary items for the job.

Espresso Machine

First make sure the machine is turned off and unplugged prior to starting, and familiarize yourself with the cleaning tips and instructions from the manufacturer's guide.

Then, collect the following materials which you'll need for the cleaning process:

Espresso machine cleaner or vinegar

• Backflush agent

• Soft towel or dish rag

• Small sponge with scrub pad surface or soft brush

• Big bowl or container (it will need to be large enough to hold your portafilter)

Step 2 - Clean the outside of the machine.

Take the soft cloth or dish rag, get it wet (squeeze out the excess water) and wipe the exterior of the machine clean.

Step 3 - Backflush the machine.

Consult your manufacturer's guide for how often this should be done - usually it is around a couple of times a week. You want to use a backflush agent such as JoeGlo, PuroCaf or Cafiza to do the job. The detergent you are using will give you the recommended flush sequence to use while backflushing. This process effectively gets rid of trapped oils and grind deposits, and will allow the three-way valve to seal properly.

Step 4 - Wash and soak the portafilter and other parts.

Fill a large bowl with warm water, and soak the portafilter and other parts such as the filter basket, shower head and milk wand. Important - these parts should never be placed in the dishwasher as this will cause the metal to corrode. If necessary you can wash with warm water and mild soap by hand with the small sponge or brush before soaking. Pay particular attention to the gasket around the group head as this can get quite dirty. Also, make sure you unclog the steam hole, and you can use a pipe cleaner to clean the inside of the milk wand if it needs it. When soaking use plain water only - do not use soap, and soak overnight if necessary.

Step 5 - Decalcify the interior.

If you notice your coffee tasting a little strange or funky, most likely it's because of mineral deposits that have built up internally. To decalcify, run espresso machine cleaner through the empty filter basket. You could alternatively use one part white vinegar to one part water in place of the espresso machine cleaner. Important - never run soap or detergent through the machine as this could cause internal corrosion. After decalcifying, run plain water through the machine a few times to get rid of the remnants of the espresso cleaner or vinegar.

Step 6 - Let everything dry, and then reassemble.

After you are finished cleaning and soaking all the parts, you can let air dry thoroughly. Once dry, just simply reassemble the machine, and it will be in ready condition to churn out some high quality espresso drinks. A post tip is never leave water in your machine when not using. This will promote rust build-up and bacterial growth, both of which will noticeably degrade the quality of your product.

So these are the step-by-step instructions on how to clean your espresso machine. Make sure you stick to a consistent cleaning schedule. If you do you'll keep your espresso machine in mint condition and be able to make great tasting coffee for years to come.

Espresso Coffee Cups

Up until 1992 all espresso coffee cups could only purchased in either white or with a company logo upon them. It was then the decision of Illy Caffe that they would combine art with espresso and they commissioned Matteo Thun to help design their first espresso cup. The design is considered by the owner of Illy Caffe (Francesco Illy) to be the perfect cup even though its design is very simple. Now with many coffee connoisseurs around the world, these types of cups have become collector's items.

In fact for many when it comes to collecting espresso coffee cups it is almost akin to them collecting some forms of artwork. The cups designed today each have their own artist who will produce his/her own particular design and will contain some of their own personal style within them. Today there are many up and coming artists who have now designed cup collections as a way of getting themselves known and making their artwork available to the general public.

Espresso Machine

Today all companies that produce such cups will have a particular numbering system in place which allows them to limit the number that are produced. Plus you will also find that they limit the time in which these cups will be available before they remove them from the shelves and bring in a completely new design. You will find that with each of the Illy collector cups and their accompanying saucers has been signed and numbered on the base.

Plus inside the cup itself you will see it says "Illy Collection". However those cups and saucers which are used in restaurants and are therefore part of a bar set will only say "Illy Espresso" on them and will neither have a number of being signed. Other cups that are now being produced are those by FrancisFrancis! and Saeco. The FrancisFrancis! collections come with both a number and a signature on them just like the Illy collections, whilst the Saeco espresso coffee cups will only signed on the base.

Each set of cups when purchased comes in a display box and in some cases you may find that the manufacturers have also included coffee with them as well.

Today because espresso coffee cups have become extremely popular, getting hold of the older versions can be very difficult and also be very expensive. Certainly as soon as any series of cups is no longer available to be brought through a retail outlet then the only way to obtain this through buying them from another collector. One set of Trazzine espresso coffee cups which a person could have purchased in 1994 for 9 is now up for sale by a collector for 0. So certainly as you can see these cups are not just for drinking your espressos.

Lavazza BLUE Espresso Machines

Lavazza espresso machines are reinventing how we prepare and drink caffeinated beverages both at work and at home. Traditionally, coffee was always made in large quantities in a conventional drip coffee maker. Today, the needs and wants of coffee drinkers make this method of preparation quite antiquated. At home, java connoisseurs are interested in making espresso in addition to coffee. At work, the act of drinking coffee brewed hours ago that was left to sit on a pot warmer is unthinkable to some; plus, there are so many different coffee roasts and flavors these days, it is hard to cater to everyone. Fortunately, Lavazza BLUE (BLUE stands for Best Lavazza Ultimate Espresso) machines can alleviate these problems. By using Lavazza espresso pods to create individual portions of coffee and espresso, drinking coffee from the coffee machine at work can become tolerable again, saving you a trip to your normal coffee shop.

Lavazza espresso pods are tiny capsules that hold single-serving amounts of grounds. Since they are sealed individually, they remain fresher much longer than grounds sold in large bags. When they are deposited into a Lavazza BLUE machine, the user then needs to place a cup under the dispenser and turn a handle and their coffee will start brewing. When the beverage has finished brewing, the capsule will fall into a chamber; this feature makes cleanup a hassle-free task. Lavazza pods are available in several different flavors and roasts; a variety of tea capsules are available as well.

Espresso Machine

Lavazza BLUE machines can function in a variety of different sized offices. For large offices or waiting rooms, there are vending machine sized machines; models include the Astro, Zenith, Colibri, and Kikko. These automatic and semi-automatic machines are equipped to service a large number of people with vastly different coffee preferences. If your office is smaller, consider a Lavazza BLUE LB 2000. This is a model that is small enough to sit on a table or counter. This model comes with a used capsule container as well as a water tank so that the water does not need to be filled before every drink is prepared. The LB 2000 also boasts a digital display for efficient beverage making. The LB 2200 comes with a steam pipe but is otherwise the same as the LB 2000.

There are two Lavazza BLUE espresso machines perfect for home use: the LB 1000 and LB 800. These machines are small (the LB 800 is more compact than the LB 1000) and have the same single-serve operation as the LB 2000 and LB 2200. These machines are great for households that do not drink large amounts of coffee at one time, or for households whose members have different drink preferences. A variety of Lavazza espresso pods can be on hand to suit a variety of tastes.

An obvious drawback to Lavazza BLUE machines is that they can only produce one size of beverage, so if you prefer to fill a larger coffee mug or like to have a pot of coffee handy throughout the day, the Lavazza BLUE models will not be able to satisfy these desires.
